What does lavender do?

Clinical Research

In a study by Burnett et al. (2004), 73 healthy adults were randomly assigned to receive lavender essential oil, rosemary essential oil, or distilled water on their wrists. They then performed an anxiety-provoking test and were assessed for anxiety and mood. Those who received lavender essential oil had higher scores on a scale measuring positive feelings suggesting that lavender essential oil may help increase feelings of happiness. *2

In a study by Chamine et al. (2016), 92 healthy adults performed a memory test and were then randomly assigned to inhale 1) lavender oil aroma 2) coconut oil aroma or 3) water aroma, while undergoing a stressful situation. They were then tested on memory again and only those who inhaled the lavender oil aroma had significantly improved results. This suggests that lavender oil aroma may help improve post-stress working performance. *3
